The Tupamaros

Maria Esther Gilio,a well-known Latin American journalist, explains how and why the movement of the Tupamaros came into being. She records interviews with many of the Tupamaros themselves, with Jesuits and peasants. Such are the revelations in her book that it has never been allowed to be published in Uruguay. And now, in the light of recent events, Miss Gilio has added an extra chapter covering the kidnapping of the British Ambassador, (now Sir) Geoffrey Jackson, and the extraordinary mass jailbreak of Tupamaros which preceded his release from captivity.
